There is evidence that man has been meditating for well over 5,000 years and probably well before then. Developing mindfulness to uncover his inherent nature of pure boundless self awareness.

In the workshop I will teach you an easy, step by step way to meditate, you will learn how to build a meditation practice that may stay with you the rest of your life. We will look at the science behind meditation, in an easy to understand format. We will look at the true self beyond the limitations of mind and ego. Try out a number of simple meditations, each different.

Course Outline:

  • The benefits of meditation
  • A brief history of meditation
  • The meaning and difference between meditation and mindfulness
  • How to turn a meditation practice into a habit
  • The Science behind meditation
  • The 1st meditation – a mindfulness meditation
  • A few facts about how our brains change, our identity, personality and ego.
  • The 2nd mini meditation
  • Half way – we break for 15 minutes for a chat and simple movement meditation
  • We look at emotions followed by the 4th mini meditation
  • We look pain and suffering, the science behind it and meditation
  • We explore happiness, joy followed by 5th mini meditation
  • A summary + questions, chat and closure.
  • We finish of with the 6th Mediation (a visualization)

  • Water, or flask of tea, coffee, welcome to bring a snack
  • Something to sit on cushion, blanket, bolster
  • lots of curiosity

About the Tutor:

'August Smits is a yoga and meditation teacher. He has studied both in Australia and India. August teaches through the Sutherland Shire. His prime objective is to make meditation and yoga accessible for everyone regardless of age, gender, physical condition. I base my approach on science more so than on a spiritual philosophy.'

Other Information:

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
