Acrylic Painting for Beginners

In this engaging painting course, you will embark on a creative journey to learn the foundational skills of acrylic painting over eight weeks. Discover the joy of creating your masterpiece from start to finish, all while gaining confidence in your artistic abilities.

  • You will be guided through acrylic painting foundations and techniques.
  • Learn different acrylic painting techniques and experiment with different brushes and pallet knives
  • Experiment with different styles and techniques to unleash your creativity.
  • Improve your painting skills, including colour theory and brush control.
  • You will get painting using methods that will give you great results even if you’ve got no artistic training
  • Get a solid foundation of how acrylics work

We will cover a wide range of techniques from classical realism to a more modern abstract approach. At the end, you would have created different paintings with different styles, and you will have a good solid foundation of how acrylics work and then you will be able to develop all the paintings you’ve ever dreamt about!

You will feel supported as you explore the world of colour and creativity, with the flexibility to discover your preferred painting styles and techniques. Since the first class you will be painting your first canvas and received technical knowledge.

Course Outline:

Week 1-4 working on Blending and backgrounds
Week 4-8 working on abstract and realism and combination of both introducing palette knife

  • Understand the qualities of acrylic paints
  • Materials and set up: Choosing and looking after your tools – brushes (four common shapes: flat, bright, filbert and round)
  • Colour theory and mixing (cool tones, warm tones)
  • Explore various types of acrylic painting techniques and the effects
  • As the course goes through step by step, I will introduce each new technique slowly and in a logical progressive sequence.
  • Brush handling, palette knife techniques and some medium. All these provide the foundation for all your future works
  • Elements of Composition: Balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm.

  • How to transform a drawing into a completed painting
  • An assessment of our own personal style and how to develop it more fully

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand acrylic paints. Integrate design and colour concepts to create paintings both representational and abstract.
  • Recognise colour, tone and paint quality in the structure and mood of a painting
  • Develop your creative potential and painting style – construct a painting
  • You will have a really good solid foundation of how acrylics work and then you will be able to develop all the paintings you’ve ever dreamt about!
  • You will enjoy and get fun creating your artwork! You will be happy and it will improve your wellbeing

What to bring:

  • Bring your own material. After the enrolment your teacher will contact you by email with the Acrylics Painting Material List to bring for the first week
  • Additional Information: Use closed-in shoes, wear old clothes or bring an apron, long hair must be tied back

My collection has a bit of nature, abstract, calm, force. I have developed very effective tips, methods and tools over the years that I am excited to share with you in this course.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
