What is an altered book and its uses?

• Tools and materials overview
• Sealing, priming and preparing the pages and cover
• Creating the cover – layering, mark making, collage and mixed media
• Finishing touches

• Learn techniques including mixed media, mark making and collage
• Design and create an altered book journal
• Gain confidence to continue altering pages and developing the book as an ongoing art project or personal journal

About the Tutor:

'I’m Marie of The Makers Republic, a mixed media and collage artist with over 20 years of experience and a lifelong love of making. I work with paper, fabric, embroidery, paint, and more—blending textures, layers, and techniques to create pieces that are rich in colour and detail.

My creative process is rooted in play and experimentation. I love giving myself permission to explore, to follow my intuition, and to make without overthinking. I’m especially drawn to materials that might otherwise be thrown away—old papers, scraps of fabric, worn-out packaging—and finding new life and beauty in them through upcycling and collage.
Making, for me, is a way to connect—with myself, with materials, and with others. I’m passionate about bringing people together to share stories, spark ideas, and create in community.'

• All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
