Photography for Beginners St George & Sutherland Community College

Photography for Beginners

Photography has become ubiquitous, everyone has an amazing camera in their phone, available all the time, using it all the time. Everyone has lots and lots of images, records of serial numbers, kids at the park, a sign to remember, where I last parked the car, etc.

This course is an introduction to taking photographs on purpose, slowing down and using a camera to capture memorable images without relying totally on luck. Perhaps taking up photography as a hobby.

Lessons are in two sections, a class and a mini workshop. It’s about the practical side of photographing family, friends, holidays and those special events that deserve vivid memories. The topics: People, Places, Events and Action guide the class to cover the basics for most situations. Students generally have their photos taken by the other students and/or the tutor. If this is an issue, please let the tutor know. Images from the class are to be treated as private.

About the Tutor:

'Paul is an amateur photographer with adult teaching experience that is happy to explain and present the fundamentals of his hobby to anyone willing to learn. Following a typical path he became interested in Photography in his late teens and early 20’s. There he learned monochrome shooting and printing techniques. Then with the advent of popular colour photography, marriage, children and mortgages interest fell back to documenting family life. Still learning and enjoying developing a photographer’s view of the world.'
