At The Eyes of Land and Sea, Nuwi / Canoes and Whale Sculptures, you will learn how to Photograph and see in both colour and black and white interpret light and shadow, correct camera set up, using a tripod properly, time exposures – auto and manual exposure modes & filtration using filters. Students will learn about Landscape Photography; Colour and Black and White theory, Previsualisation, lighting and exposure, composition, negative space and depth of field.

This comprehensive field trip, also includes one to one help, and student feedback. Students will also receive links to filter tutorials and free legitimate software which will enable students to convert colour images to black and white, and also process raw and jpeg images, these links will be sent to students at the completion of the field trip (via email). Programs offered are legitimate, current and free software, of which you will also be able to download on your own home PC / Laptop (please note; most software is available for recent Windows and Apple operating programs), a connection to the internet, and have access privileges to download and install software onto your PC, Laptop, Notebook or Surface tablet). *Please note this does not include Android or Apple iOS (iPad etc).

Agenda:

Camera set up; Picture settings, ISO (film speed), white balance. How to correctly install and use filters; neutral density and polarizing. Keeping it sharp, level and steady.
How to interpret the light, how to do correct time exposures, using a tripod properly, photographing on both auto, and manual exposure modes.Previsualization and landscape Photography.

Colour and Black and White technique, Shallow and deep, depth of field. Composition, framing, thirds, and negative space. Post field trip debrief (last half hour) the Photography Tutor will run a field trip debrief; assessment of students photographs as well as an open chat session to anything relating to photography, equipment or theory.

Skill Level:

You will be able to do this field trip as long as you have a good understanding of your camera and its controls and or the shutter and aperture settings or anyone whom has done a Photography – Beginners / Intermediate course or a Photography field trip.

What to bring:

Camera Equipment;
Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless with;

• RAW / JPEG image capability
• adjustable ISO/film speed settings
• with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture, and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV, and M
• with manual/autofocus capability
• also if your camera has adjustable picture control/picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral, etc
• A spare camera body /compact camera if you have one
• Batterie(s) charged and ready x 2 if you have them
• Memory card(s) x 3 if you have them

An extra battery and extra memory cards, are strongly recommended, as your camera will be ON for most of this field trip, and reviewing your photographs frequently

A lens with a standard focal length lens is highly recommend for street / capturing the Moment / urban Photography
PRIME lenses: 24 mm, 28mm, 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm
Other Prime lens(es) i.e. 15mm, 20 mm, 24 mm, 85mm, up to 135mm

Recommended ZOOM Lenses: 8 – 55 mm, 18 – 135 mm, 16 – 35 mm, 24 – 70 mm, 28 to 80 mm

Other Zoom lens(es)
10 – 20 mm, 40 – 150 mm, 70 – 200 etc

Lens notes;

• Any lens with a fast aperture of f1.4 / f1.8 / f2.0 / f2.8 / f4.0 etc will be very useful for ‘bokeh’ out of focus photographs
• A fisheye / wide angle lens is very helpful to capture the scenes at close range / confined spaces

Filter

• A circular polarizing filter known as a CPL is strongly recommended – but not necessary
• If you have a neutral density filter set please bring that too

Essential Footwear:

You will need proper footwear for this field trip, Please note; to participate you must wear enclosed footwear only, no open footwear i.e; sandals, high heels, open shoes, smooth soled shoes cannot be worn for this field trip.

For safety purposes acceptable footwear is as follows; Shoes / boots with grip / rubber soles i.e walking shoes, running shoes, - bush walking shoes or hiking boots / weather-proof footwear / boots

• Own snacks and water (water, drinks and food are not included)
• Wear sensible clothing for the weather conditions on the day, rain gear and a large and a small umbrella (high trafficked areas)

PLEASE NOTE:

Park entry, any additional parking fee(s), lunch, brunch, water, drinks etc are not included in the cost of this field trip.

Permissions:

General photography is permitted, but; (close-up photos of families / adults and especially identifying children under 18 years old should not be taken, or be published, unless a model waiver has been signed).

Weather:

This field trip will go ahead even if it is raining lightly. Field trips will run regardless of the weather to give students an opportunity to photograph in fine or wet weather. If it is dangerous weather, high winds severe downpour you will be sent an email or text, please keep an eye out for any messages / mail from Neoklis in case the weather changes suddenly. A field trip will only be postponed to a future date if heavy weather / thunderstorm is forecast or it is continuously raining.
