Spelling, Reading and Writing Tutoring - Years 1 & 2

Reading does not come naturally and must be taught and for many children, reading must be taught explicitly and systematically, one small step at a time. This course is designed to consolidate the concepts involved in learning to read, write and spell confidently and help your child successfully embark on the exciting adventure that reading and writing should be.

SGSCC uses four methods to teach reading & spelling:

  • Phonics
  • Context support
  • Language approach
  • The look and say method

SGSCC uses a modelling and scaffolding approach to teach writing.

The intended learning outcomes for this course is for the child to further develop:

  • Vocabulary usage
  • Written and non-written communication and expression
  • Conceptual development
  • Independence in spelling, reading & writing
  • Increased confidence
  • Increased awareness of phonics, phonetic spelling, phoneme awareness, phonological awareness and phonology

Students currently in Year 1 or 2
