Italy, with its 65% of the world's art treasure and its ancient history at every corner is one of the most visited countries in the world. Its language is the language of romance, opera, and poetry. Whether you are an art lover, a food lover or you just want to exercise the grey cells, Italian is your language. You will be fascinated by the logic and simplicity of this melodic language. Italian is pronounced exactly the way it is written making it easy to speak and spell. Our classes are conducted in a stress free, friendly and fun atmosphere. Audio visual aids, games and role play are used to facilitate the diverse learning methods.

SGSCC Beginners Language courses are Entry Level, meaning no prior knowledge is required. These courses are geared to the potential tourist, business person and those wishing to improve communication with friends or family who have non-English speaking background.

Course Outline:

Part 1

• Alphabet pronunciation
• Numbers 0-10
• Greetings formal and informal
• Nouns (gender and number)
• Determinative articles (masculine, feminine, singular, plural)
• Use of adjectives (gender and number)
• Verb essere (to be) present indicative.

Outcomes:

By the end of Part 1 students should be able to:

• Introduce themselves.
• Spell their names with the Italian alphabet.
• Exchange greetings. Ask how someone is and say how they are.
• Make basic conversation, their nationality, marital status, phone number...
• Buy tickets. Order coffee and snacks.
• Use nouns, articles and adjectives as appropriate.

• For Arsenia's beginners class you will need to purchase Italianissimo New Edition 1 ISBN 978-0-563-51906-5 beginners book
• For Antonella beginners class you will need to purchase Via del Corso A1 for English speakers - Libro dello studente ed (the book can be ordered at Abbey's bookshop in York Street Sydney or directly from Edilingua with Euro14.40 postage. It is also possible to find it on e Bay and Amazon)
• Bring pen and paper
• The purchase of an Italian dictionary is recommended

• All language classes/levels are delivered as Part 1 and Part 2 across two terms. To maximise your chance of learning we recommend enrolling into both parts 1 and 2.

About the tutor:

Arsenia - Arsenia Neirotti was born in Torino, Italy, where she also completed her studies.
She has a great passion for the Italian language which she enjoys sharing with her students. Her love for her language prompted her to specialise in Adult Education and has been teaching at the SGSCC for the past 35 years.
Her main interests are Italian Renaissance Art and Opera which she has enthusiastically presented in her Italian Culture workshops.
Arsenia firmly believes that learning should be fun at any age so join her and have a great time.

Antonietta - I am a passionate teacher with strong communication skills, who has considerable experience in teaching Italian to the highest levels. I am fluent in Italian and English and have a strong understanding of the Italian culture.
I have acquired a lot of experience in planning and organising my lessons to implement effective teaching and learning, adopting various teaching strategies to encourage student participation and motivation.
I have achieved a good knowledge of several software programs, such as Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 and Outlook Express. In March 2015, I completed a distance education training for online teaching at SIDE - Perth, using a variety of communication technologies, such as Saba and Moodle.
In 2012, I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Education, and in 2008 I completed a Bachelor of Science (Human Biology).
I hold NESA accreditation and WWCC NSW.
