This workshop will explain how a computer functions and the important components that comprise a computer system. We will explore the different devices in use today such as tablets, phones, laptops and desktops and help you decide what you need to communicate in today’s world. We will learn about Operating systems (OS) particularly Windows 11, explore its features and how we can navigate this interface. Then we launch applications such as Microsoft’s Internet browser Edge or Office 365 and discuss their features and use in the workplace.

To assist us to find information more efficiently online we will use Microsoft’s AI tool, Copilot. How we save our data and where we save it is covered in the section working with files, folders, internal and external drives, USB’s and the cloud. As we can download many Applications for personal or work-related activities, send and receive data we need to manage security for our devices to keep out malware, so we will review the available antivirus software. Finally, we will look at how we can protect our privacy online by adjusting settings in our browser and applications and the laws and Government websites that relate to this area.

No prior knowledge of PC’s needed.

• To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
• All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
